I worked for Dr. Heller as his secretary for many years when he was Chair of the Department of Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences at the University of Chicago. He was a very kind, humorous man who loved to tell jokes and stories. He got reviews from medical students a lot that said they really enjoyed his teaching style and how he wove jokes into his clases. He also loved to play the violin and squash and to go to Minnesota fishing every summer. He was very devoted to his family. My condolences to his wife, Barbara and his son, Daniel.

I was Dr. Heller's graduate student. He was very influential in my career. He helped me do dissections for my Ph.D. thesis and analyzed the lesions. He was very humorous. At my dissertation defense, as part of his introduction, he said that I was wearing my Bar Mitzvah suit. At a very critical time, he helped me find a permanent position, which I am still at, Drexel University College of Medicine. He also taught me autonomic pharmacology which I still teach it to the medical students. He has a very fine legacy with all his students. May Dr. Heller's memory be for a blessing to the family.
