Meeting David during college was among the major formative and positive developments of that time in my life; it was a joy to be able over the years to have some contact and to share him with his beloved family. His memory will always be green and glowing for me as no doubt for so many others. With faith in a God of providential love, no doubt he will always be with us, and we may have confident comfort in our eventual reunion with him in Him. Oh, but how we'll miss him until then.

I am sad to hear of Dave's premature death and very sorry that I will not be able to attend Dave's funeral as I live in Washington, DC. I first met Dave 47 years ago when I came to Illinois to work for then Cook County Board President Richard Ogilvie. Over the years, Dave was a source of great wit and camaraderie, one of a group of fine people whose friendships I cherished. I'm glad I had the opportunity to see him over the decades at various reunions so the memories are fresh.

Transitions. David changed my life in 1977 when he joked that I was trying to live a "Peter Pan" life at the University, still playing politics at age 29, organizing first year students to do our poll watching and precinct canvassing. It woke me up and I knew I had to finish my degree, quit my state job, and within two years I had moved on. Thank you, David. You made me grow up.
