We may never again know a Rebbetzen quite like Lotte. She was our quintessential hostess, welcomer, and social connector for decades. Totally devoted to her brilliant husband, she also reached out to everyone she knew or met. Years after Rabbi Schaalman was our Emeritus Rabbi, it was still Lotte who reached out to me when I joined, to ask me to light shabbat candles -- as she did to generations of Emanuel women. We are honored and blessed to have had her with us for so long. Her memory is and will always be a very great blessing.

The only reason ever to be reluctant to visit Rabbi Schaalman was that Lotte could not be stopped from going into full hostess mode, taking far more trouble than a small visit needed.
We are blessed by her memory.

Lotte, you inspired all of us who knew you. You were a right hand and a heart for your soulmate and the example you were gave direction to all who saw you in action!

We, at Emanuel Congregation, are saddened as we have lost a member of our family, an example, a friend, a Rebbetzen Emeritus, and some of the heart and glue of our community.

Our family is richer for knowing her and having her in our lives and we are sure her memory will be for a blessing.
